To Support a Journal...

It is firmly fixed in the SUP Constitution that, based upon the principles of fairness, justice, respect and equality for all workers at sea and ashore, it is among the Union's objectives, "to support a journal which shall voice the sentiments of the seafaring class, and through its columns seek to maintain the knowledge of and interest in maritime affairs."  The West Coast Sailors is that journal, a monthly publication, containing the activities of the Union and of the maritime world in which it operates. The first issue, in June of 1937, noted that "thinking, studying, and a knowledge of industry which the Union represents are important in the development and achievement of the Union... and common sense, fearlessly applied, brings success to a Union."
